New Delhi: An analysis of the government showed that 91 per cent of the people infected by the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have received both doses of vaccine with three having received booster doses.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Friday presented the data of the study conducted on 183 of the 358 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus reported in India so far.
Of the 183 cases analysed, 87 of them were fully vaccinated while two were partially vaccinated, seven people were unvaccinated while 16 were ineligible to receive vaccine doses in the country’s national vaccination programme.
The government data also showed that 70 per cent of Omicron cases were asymptomatic while there were symptoms in 30 per cent cases.
“Of the 183 Omicron cases analysed so far, 87 cases were fully vaccinated with three — two in Delhi and one in Mumbai — having received booster shots, 70 per cent were asymptomatic and 61 per cent were males. The vaccination status of 73 is still unknown,” Bhushan said at a press conference.
The analysis showed that majority of the Omicron cases in India were detected among those who have returned from foreign countries while only few cases were reported among those who are unvaccinated.
While 73 per cent cases of the new variant were detected among those with a history of foreign travel, 27 per cent patients had no history of foreign travel.
