Rs 725 crore for ‘Sunkishala’ project

Hyderabad: A provision of Rs 725 crore was proposed in the Budget for the ‘Sunkishala’ project that has been up taken up with an outlay of Rs 1,450 crore, said Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday. The government is spending Rs 1,200 crores to provide drinking water to all the habitations within the Outer Ring Road.
On the projects that will be executed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board(HMWS&SB), Harish Rao in his Budget speech said Rs 3,866 crores would be spent to treat the sewage generated in the city. “The World Bank has recognised Hyderabad as an ODF City and adding to that, it was also recognised as a water plus city,” he said.

The Minister recalled that drinking water to Hyderabad was supplied through Gandipet Reservoir built a century ago and the State government has taken up beautification and improvement works at the reservoir with an outlay of Rs 36.5 crore.
