Hyderabad: While the Covid-19 pandemic did impact the career of the majority of women, a new study has found that more than half of them are in the process of rejoining the workforce. A study by Indeed on Women rejoining work post Covid-19 found that 58 per cent are in the process of rejoining the workforce.
The top sectors to which women are returning are automobile (71 per cent), manufacturing 70 per cent), and construction and real estate (68 per cent) while retail was the sector with the lowest proportion of women returning to work at 43 per cent, the report says.
The survey found that almost 58 per cent of women respondents believe female employees had quit their jobs to take on more family responsibilities, while 32 per cent said they quit because of the pandemic. A significant proportion of employers i.e. 39 per cent agree with the view that women employees quit their organisations in the last two years due to family responsibilities.
More than three-quarters say that in spite of the pandemic, they would still be confident about returning to work, but 67 per cent are planning to do so, say they find it challenging to re-enter the workforce.
Women who are returning to the workplace expect organisations to play a more active part in bringing them up to speed in their roles. 42 per cent would want their organisation to have up-skilling/re-skilling programmes, 30 per cent would like re-entry programmes and 26 per cent would like facilities for flexible/remote working.
Nishita Lalvani, Senior Manager for Indeed India and SEA said, “Organisations need to ensure that women are inspired and empowered to grow their career by addressing what companies can do to support their women employees. Most importantly, organisations should create a culture of support where women feel safe and valued by offering learning and development opportunities.”
