As exit polls project close contests, Congress rushes several leaders to Goa, Uttarakhand, Punjab

New Delhi: Learning from its previous experiences, especially in Goa, the Congress party has rushed several of its senior leaders to states that will witness Assembly election results on March 10. The development comes a day after exit polls for UP, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur predicted a victory for the BJP and AAP in UP and Punjab respectively, and a close contest in Goa, Manipur, and Uttarakhand. While Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar has been rushed to Goa, Deepender Hooda, Bhupesh Baghel and former Karnataka minister MB Patil have been rushed to Uttarakhand, sources told Times Now. “You will see what happens in Goa on March 10,” Shivakumar said before rushing to the coastal state on Tuesday.Meanwhile, a battery of leaders including Ajay Maken, Bhupinder Hooda, and Pawan Khera is likely to be sent to Punjab after all the exit polls in that state predicted a clear majority for the AAP. According to reports citing sources, senior Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram has been also been asked to get in touch with smaller parties in case of a hung Assembly in these states. It may be recalled that in 2017, despite emerging as the single largest party in Goa, Congress failed to form a government in the coastal state due to swift moves by the BJP.Results for Assembly elections in UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur will be declared on March 10. The final phase of elections for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections concluded on Monday.
