As situation remains grim in Ukraine, PM Modi calls another high-level meeting

Photo : PTINew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening called another high-level meeting to discuss the ongoing political turmoil in war-hit Ukraine – second in 24 hour. The meeting will be attended by senior ministers and officials, sources said. The Prime Minister had also chaired a meeting last evening during which it was decided that four Union ministers will be sent to the neighbouring countries of the war-hit nation to coordinate efforts to evacuate Indian students stranded there. Union ministers Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and VK Singh will travel to the countries bordering Ukraine as “special envoys” of Indiato help with the evacuation. Scindia will visit Romania and Moldova while Rijiju will go to Slovakia to manage the evacuation of Indians who have come from Ukraine through land borders. Puri will take care of evacuation efforts from Hungary and Singh will be in Poland. During the Sunday meeting, PM Modi had asserted that the safety and evacuation of Indians from Ukraine, attacked by Russia, is a top priority for his government. The government engaged in hectic parleys after several students stranded in Ukraine shared videos on social media, seeking their immediate evacuation. Besides, families and friends of some students also took to social media, requesting the government to immediately bring them home.
