Bihar CM Nitish Kumar loses cool in state Assembly over Lakhisarai incident

(File image)Photo : IANSPatna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lost his cool in the state Legislative Assembly on Monday over the Lakhisarai incident involving the alleged misbehaviour of policemen with Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha. A tussle erupted between Nitish Kumar and Sinha during the Question Hour in state Assembly and the chief minister said that the latter was openly violating the constitution. Last month, police arrested a few people for violating COVID-19 guidelines at an orchestra organised on the occasion of Saraswati Puja in Lakhisarai — the constituency of the Speaker. After the arrest, Sinha expressed displeasure towards the police’s action. On Monday, when an uproar erupted again over the issue, Nitish Kumar got up and objected to the day-to-day ruckus in the Assembly. The Chief Minister told Sinha that he was openly violating the constitution, and in this way the house will not run. “I want to tell our members also. The way you are raising this question again and again. When we have replied and said an inquiry is happening, then should you be concerned about the inquiry or should the court?” he lashed out.When Sinha tried to intervene, Kumar said, “I was listening. I feel hurt. This is unacceptable. You listen to me. I will not accept this.”“There is no point in raising the same issue every day. We will definitely consider the report that the Privileges Committee will present and see which side is right,” he said. The matter has been referred to the privilege committee. Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad had earlier informed the House that the matter had been discussed at the privilege committee meeting and report sought from the DGP. “Action will be taken on the basis of the report and the House will be apprised of that,” he had said.
