Corbevax COVID-19 vaccinePhoto : ANINew Delhi: Hyderabad-based Biological E has sought emergency usage authorisation (EUA) for use of its COVID-19 jab, Corbevax, on children between the ages of five and 12. Notably, the vaccine had received approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for use on children between 12-18 years of age (under certain conditions) last month.According to an ANI report quoting sources, the pharmaceutical company has already submitted data to the Subject Expert Committee for beneficiaries in this age group. The SEC will recommend an EUA after seeing the safety and immunogenicity data amongst this group. Reportedly the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) is expected to give final EUA to Corbevax soon. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, India has so far administered more than 179.33 crore vaccine doses. Earlier this year, the inoculation drive had been expanded to include older children, aged 15 and above. Till date, 8.78 crore doses of Covaxin have been administered to this age group. The two-dose vaccine is expected to cost around Rs 145 without taxes. Reportedly, the Centre has already purchased about 5 crore Biological E vaccines Corbevax and also delivered them to some states. The company had earlier said that it plans to complete production at a rate of 75 Million doses per month, anticipating 100+ million doses per month from February 2022.
