New Delhi: In what may hint that the Congress party is rallying behind sitting Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM-face for Punjab Assembly elections 2022, the party has tweeted actor Sonu Sood’s video featuring Channi. In the video, Sood is seen saying that the “real chief minister is the one who does not have to tell he is the chief ministerial candidate”.

The video shows Channi participating in various events. ‘The real chief minister, the real king is the one who has to forcibly be brought to the chair and who does not have to struggle for it and does not have to state that I am CM candidate, I deserve it. He should be such a backbencher, who is brought from behind and told that you deserve it. Such a chief minister can bring change in the country,” Sood is seen saying in the video.

The tweet was captioned – “Punjab is saying that now we are with hand (Congress poll symbol), we will strengthen it.”

An apparent cold war between Sidhu-Channi

The subtle hint, if any, comes at a time when a cold war is reportedly brewing between Channi and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Channi was chosen as the Chief Minister of Punjab after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as Punjab CM in September last year over differences with Sidhu.

While the Congress leadership has not declared any CM face for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022, Sidhu had last week said that he was not running for any post. While distancing himself from the race, he, however, slammed the ‘system’ and added that ‘either this system will stay or Navjot Singh Sidhu’.

“The fight is to change this system which has eroded Punjab like termites and is being run by Mafias in connivance of mischievous politicians. This system cries for a change and reforms as the glory of Punjab has been annihilated by the nexus of Few political leaders and Mafia,” he said in a tweet. A day before, he had openly said that the chief minister of Punjab would be decided by the people of the state and not the party high command.
