COVID-19 vaccination of 12-14-year-olds and ‘precaution dose’ for 60 plus to begin from March 16: Mandaviya

New Delhi: The Covid-19 vaccination for children in the 12-14 years age group is likely to begin this week, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. Mandaviya further added that the co-morbidity clause for administering precaution doses to senior citizens is also likely to be removed in the near future.”COVID-19 vaccination of 12-14-year-olds and ‘precaution dose’ for all those above 60 years to begin from March 16,” Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.”The vaccination of children in the age group of 12 -14 years is most likely to begin from Tuesday. Also, the co-morbidity clause for administering precaution doses to those aged 60 years and above would be removed,” an official source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.According to sources, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) has given its recommendation to begin the vaccination of children in the age group of 12-15. In January this year, the government rolled out the vaccination drive for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years. The government also began administering precautionary doses to healthcare workers, frontline workers, election duty officials, and also those aged 60 and above with comorbidities from January 10 in light of the surge in cases due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
