Delhi court grants bail to former municipal councillor Ishrat Jahan

Photo : ANINew Delhi: A Delhi court today granted bail to former municipal councillor Ishrat Jahan an accused in the North East Delhi violence larger conspiracy case. She had been arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2020. According to the Delhi Police, the former Congress politician had been trying to incite people during the violent clashes in the national capital, giving provocative speeches during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.At least 53 people had been killed and hundreds of others injured as protests and counter-protests over CAA rocked northeast Delhi between February 24 and 26. Besides Jahan, Jamia Millia Islamia University students Asif Iqbal Tanha, Gulfisha Khatoon, Jamia Coordination Committee members Safoora Zargar, Meeran Haider, president of Jamia Alumni Association Shifa-Ur-Rehman, suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, activist Khalid Safi, JNU student Natasha Narwal and former student leader Umar Khalid had also been booked under the anti-terror law in the case.More to come…Related NewsDelhi MCD election 2022: AAP holds protest against deferment of civic body polls – Updates
