ED probe links Rs 200 crore Mumbai plot to Nawab Malik’s family

Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab MalikPhoto : ANIMumbai: As the Enforcement Directorate continues its probe against Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik, a plot in the city has been linked to his family. Meanwhile, the lawmaker on Monday approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the case registered against him by the ED as it probes money laundering linked to fugitive Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.According to reports, the ED has found a plot worth Rs 200 crore in Mumbai’s Bandra- Kurla area. The plot is owned by Touchwood Real Estate, of which the NCP leader’s son, Faraz, is 25% partner. A Times of India report quoting sources indicates that it was purchased in 2006 in three different transactions from various buyers. The ED has now flagged the ‘suspicious’ transactions and is investigating the people involved. According to reports, the Agency is now probing ‘Associate Group of Companies’ – a name that was unearthed through scrutiny of Touchwood’s balance sheet and a transaction of Rs 12.7 crore.The ED summoned Faraz Malik on Tuesday, and is likely to confront him with his father and a few documents and other evidence collected by them.Related News’When you lose elections…’: Sanjay Raut slams BJP over Nawab Malik’s arrestReportedly, the investigative body has established a money trail linking Nawab Malik to individuals connected to the underworld. An IANS article quoting ED sources have also claimed that they have found details of benami investments of Nawab Malik in a few real estate projects. The ED had arrested Nawab Malik on February 23 and later got custodial remand till March 3.The Maharashtra Minister however contends that his arrest was “illegal” and that he was targeted for being a “vocal critic of the misuse of Central agencies”. On Monday, he had Monday approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the case and also the order passed by a special court remanding him to the ED’s custody.
