Karnataka Congress chief DK ShivakumarPhoto : ANIBengaluru: A government should not interfere in the education of children, said Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday amid a storm over the wearing of hijab in schools in the state.Reacting to the petitions filed in Karnataka High Court challenging the ban on headscarves in educational institutions, Shivakumar said, “I don’t know why the court is taking such a long time (in delivering its judgement). They should come up with whatever solution they have.””As far as Congress is concerned, we are worried about the education of children irrespective of their dress. Govt shouldn’t interfere in it,” he added.

As far as… t.co/0rjyFrCSe1— ANI (@ANI) Feb 25, 2022Yesterday, a petitioner told the High Court that the government order banning headscarves in schools and colleges is illegal and should be quashed.In his rejoinder arguments, senior Advocate Devadatt Kamat submitted that the government order has to be quashed and if it goes, there is no restriction on the exercise of fundamental rights.Senior Advocate AM Dar appearing for another petitioner argued that “India is neither a Hindu rashtra nor an Islamic republic but a democratic, sovereign, secular, republic where rule of law must prevail.”The court will continue to hear the case today as it is yet to deliver a judgement on the petitions.The petitions have come after the pre-university education board released a circular stating that students can wear only the uniform approved by the school administration and no other religious practices will be allowed in colleges.Related NewsHijab controversy – Top 15 developments of the hearing in Karnataka High Court
