New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for blaming the party for the migrant exodus during the first wave of COVID-19 and said that instead of apologising for the crisis, the PM is questioning the hands that helped the migrant workers.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said several people lost their loved ones due to the “incompetence” of the government.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress leader said: “Those who pushed workers and their families into a deep misery by imposing lockdown, are, instead of ‘apologising’, questioning the hands that helped the migrant workers.”
“Lakhs of people have lost their loved ones due to the incompetence of the government, but today their pain was shamelessly laughed at in Parliament,” he added.
Replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha in the ongoing Budget Session of the Parliament, PM Modi earlier today held Congress responsible for the migrant crisis during the first wave of COVID.
“The Congress party has crossed all limits in this time of COVID-19. During the first wave, when people were following lockdowns, guidelines were suggesting that people stay where they are, the Congress was standing at Mumbai Station and scaring innocent people,” he said.
The Prime Minister further targeted the Congress, saying that people in several states have rejected the party for decades.“Despite facing so many electoral losses, you have not lost your arrogance,” he added.
