Shivamogga, Karnataka: A 26-year-old Bajrang Dal activist was stabbed to death by some unknown person in Karnataka’s Shivamogga on Sunday at around 9 pm.
The Bajrang Dal activist, identified as Harsha, was reportedly chased and murdered last night in Shivamogga’s Bharati Colony. The security has been tightened in the city as the situation is tense in the area following the incident.
An investigation is underway into this matter and the police are yet to ascertain who stabbed him and whether the dead person belongs to any group or whether it’s related to the hijab controversy.
Following the murder, a large number of right-wingers gathered at the Megan Hospital and started to protest. At least four vehicles were burnt down by some miscreants and the police had to resort to lathi-charge.
Section 144 has also been imposed in the whole of Shivamogga Town and a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra met with the family of the deceased Bajarang Dal activist in Shivamogga on Monday morning.
The Karnataka Home Minister had on Sunday addressed a public gathering in Shivamogga where he had remarked that the people of the state need to be cautious of communal forces that are filling dirtiness in school kids.
“Communal forces are filling communal dirtiness in school students. These forces are tarnishing the future of the country. Many forces working between us to destabilise the nation, we need to be cautious,” ANI quoted Jnanendra as saying.
