KTR directs officials to prepare road map to strengthen textiles sector

Hyderabad: Handlooms Minister KT Rama Rao directed the department officials on Monday to prepare a road map for further development and strengthening of the textiles sector in the State.
With many national and international companies investing in the textiles sector in the State, the Minister directed the officials to prepare an action plan on the measures to be taken by the government for further strengthening the sector.

The Minister, who held a meeting with department officials here, said the State Government programmes and policies that have been implemented in the last seven years for the welfare and development of weavers, were yielding good results.
Rama Rao said also listed out the innovative programmes and measures taken up by the government for the welfare of weavers and development of textiles sector. “Telangana government has accorded top priority for the development of textiles sector which offers the highest employment after agriculture sector in the country. Focus is also on providing all amenities to strengthen the sector,” Rama Rao said, adding that under this initiative, the country’s biggest textile park – Kakatiya Textile Park, was set up in Telangana.
Impressed with the Telangana government’s industry-friendly policies, availability of quality manpower and opportunities, international textiles companies like Youngone and national repute Kitex Group have invested in the State, he said. “Compile a comprehensive report on the measures to be taken for provision of more amenities, new policies, welfare programmes for weavers, strengthening the textiles and allied sectors,” Rama Rao directed the officials.
Textiles Commissioner Shailaja Ramaiyer and TSIIC Managing Director Venkat Narasimha Reddy participated in the meeting.
