New Delhi: In a major security lapse, PM Modi was stuck on a flyover in Punjab for around 15-20 minutes on Wednesday. Also, India reported the first death related to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Below are the day’s biggest headlines.  

Major breach in PM Modi’s security in Punjab, visit cancelled

Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ferozepur rally was cancelled on Wednesday following a major security breach. The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a detailed statement that PM Modi was scheduled to travel to National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala in a helicopter after landing in Bathinda. However, the plan was changed due to bad weather and the PM proceeded via road. However, the convoy got stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes as some protesters had blocked the road. In the major breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ security on Wednesday during his visit to Punjab, he was forced to cancel his visit to Ferozepur after the convoy was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes after some protesters blocked the route. India reports first Omicron-linked death in Rajasthan

The first case of Omicron-related death was reported in Rajasthan on Wednesday. According to Health Ministry officials, the 73-year-old man was infected with Omicron, which was confirmed in genome sequencing. He died in Udaipur on December 31. He died due to post-COVID pneumonia coupled with comorbidities – Udaipur Chief Medical Officer had earlier said. Read More
