Mumbai: Heavy political drama unfolded outside Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday, when BJP leader Nitesh Rane mocked state Tourism Minister and Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray. When the latter entered the Maharashtra Assembly earlier today, Rane made sounds of ‘meow’ and visibly ridiculed Thackeray, who chose to ignore the protesting Opposition leaders. The video of the incident went viral on social media.

Nitesh Rane’s act of mockery comes just a day after Maharashtra leader Bhaskar Jadhav mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on day one of the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Assembly. Jadhav was forced to apologise and he offered an unconditional apology for mocking the PM. Rane had slammed Jadhav and called him a ‘joker’ for his act mimicking PM Modi.

The rivalry between Ranes and the Thackerays is well known in Maharashtra’s political circles. Rane’s father and Union Minister Narayan Rane was a Shiv Sena leader before he left the party over differences with the leadership. Most recently, during the Sushant Singh Rajput case, Nitesh Rane had targetted the Thackeray family and asked if Aaditya Thackeray would be questioned by the police in connection with the Disha Salian death probe.

Man held for threatening Aaditya Thackeray

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have held a man for allegedly threatening Aaditya Thackeray. The man, identified as one Jaisingh Rajput had called Thackeray and threatened him over the phone. He was apprehended by the Karnataka Police and was brought to Mumbai. The Maharashtra Government has formed a special investigation team to probe cases of threats to Maharashtra ministers.
