New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contending that the latter had not answered the Wayanad MP’s questions. The BJP, he alleged, was “scared” of the Congress as “we say the truth”. Reminding of his earlier ‘predictions’ on COVID-19, Gandhi also urged the Centre to “take the threat from China and Pakistan seriously”.

“Prime Minister Modi is putting India at risk because he has got a bankrupt foreign policy. He’s allowed China and Pakistan to get together. External Affairs Minister said that China and Pakistan got together earlier, the gentleman doesn’t understand his job very well,” he added, urging the government to “wake up” and “stop ignoring the facts”.Alongside the threat from India’s neighbours, Gandhi contended that there were two other points put forth by him that had gone wholly unaddressed by the PM. “He’s creating two Indias…one is an extremely rich India for a select group of people…and another India for the vast majority of people which has no hope or employment, and faces rising prices. The second thing he’s doing is that he’s attacking and destroying India’s institutions,” the Congress leader alleged.

Gandhi also asserted that he did not “need anyone’s certificate” upon being asked by the media about his familial ties and recent remarks made by the BJP. “My great grandfather served the country. He gave his entire life for this country. So…I don’t need anyone’s certificate for him…he did what he had to do, as did many other members of my family,” he said.

“If you like abusing the Congress, if you like abusing Jawaharlal Nehru…be my guest. Keep doing it. But do your job,” he added taking a jibe at the PM.

A day earlier, Modi had launched a scathing attack against Gandhi and the Congress during an address in the Parliament, contending that the party had not lost its arrogance even after being out of power for so long. “If you had feet on the ground, then you would have seen it. But most of you are stuck in 2014. You are facing the result. You give a lot of advice but forget that you too have had the opportunity to sit here (on the treasury benches) for 50 years,” the PM said. He had also gone on to list the names of states that have not voted for Congress in the last 25 years.

“Question is not about the election result. But you don’t seem to retrospect. Why is it that despite all the electoral losses, it seems you are not ready to give up your arrogance? Also, your ecosystem does not allow you to let it go,” he added. He also said that Congress seems to have decided to not come back to power for 100 years and that he too is prepared for it.
