New Delhi: In compliance with the Model Code of Conduct norms, the Union Health Ministry has applied filters to Cowin software to ensure Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo doesn’t appear on COVID-19 vaccination certificates in 5 poll-bound states, sources said on Sunday.

The election dates for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur were announced by Election Commission on January 8, 2021.

Earlier, a huge controversy had erupted after a PIL seeking removal of PM Modi’s photo on COVID certificates was filed in Kerala High Court. While hearing the plea, the court had said what was wrong in having PM Modi’s photo on the Covid-19 vaccination certificate.

“Why are you (petitioner) ashamed of the Prime Minister? He came to power through the mandate of the people…we may have different political views, but he is still our PM,” the Kerala HC had said. The court later ruled in favour of having PM’s picture on the certificates.
