Amritsar: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday addressed a press conference in Amritsar, insisting that the AAP would “fulfill Dr BR Ambedkar’s dream” if elected to power in Punjab. The AAP National Convenor promised that every child belonging to the SC and ST community would get a “good education” under an AAP-led administration.

“I have sworn: In my life, every child of the country, no matter how poor he is, I will give him the best education possible. I will fulfill Baba Saheb’s dream,” the AAP Twitter handle quoted him as saying.

Addressing the gathering after a visit to the ‘Shri Ram Tirath Mandir’, the AAP chief noted that this was “society’s temple and society’s sacred place” and should therefore be run by the people of society. “Samaj ka mandir hai, samaj ka pavitra sthaan hai. Samaj ko usko chalaane ki zimmedari milni chahiye. Is baat se hum poore tarah sehmat hai,” he said in Hindi.

Summing up the promises made by Kejriwal, the AAP handle also noted his assurance that a shrine board would be set up with members from the Valmiki samaaj. The Delhi CM also promised to make cleaners ‘permanent’ and to put an end to manual scavenging.

Hitting out at the present Congress-led Punjab government, the AAP chief contended that there was a ‘dirty fight’ for the leadership post underway. “The Congress government is neither concerned about sacrilege, nor is it concerned about drugs. It took them 5 years to file an FIR on Majithia (SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia). Even after anticipatory bail was rejected, they are not daring to arrest him,” he alleged.

Kejriwal also condoled the injuries and deaths incurred during the stampede-like situation seen at the Vaishno Devi temple in the early hours of Saturday.
