Sarpanch Shot Dead by Militants in Kulgam in J&K

Mir was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Mir was an independent sarpanch.

An Independent sarpanch was killed by suspected militants at Audoora area of Kulgam in Kashmir on Friday, in a second such attack on a grassroots representative in the last three days. Police said it received information about the attack at around 8.20 pm.Police said the militants had firedĀ on the sarpanch, identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir. He received gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where he succumbed.Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC, and an investigation is in progress. The area where the incident took place has been cordoned off and a search is ongoing.Police said the deceased sarpanch was given accommodation in a hotel in Srinagar, from where he left and went home without informing the police.On Wednesday, a PDP sarpanch, Sameer Ahmad Bhat, was shot dead at Khanmoh on Srinagar outskirts.
