Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday said that Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar never considered cow as ‘maata’ (mother) and had no problem in consuming beef.

He also reiterated that Hindutva had nothing to do with Hinduism citing Savarkar’s book.

Speaking during Jan Jagran Abhiyan, Singh stated that Congress has a fight with the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will change the Constitution and end the reservation system if it is voted to power again in 2024.

The Congress launched a countrywide agitation programme, ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ on November 14 to expose the mismanagement of the economy by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government.

The former MP CM also took a dig at the RSS and the BJP over the alleged Ayodhya land grab row.

Accusing “Hindutvawadis” of doing “dhanda”, Singh said that the land was bought with money collected from devotees.

The Rajya Sabha member also added that the politicians from the BJP and government officials have bought the land with public money.

This comes after several reports claimed the land allocated by the Supreme Court for the Ram Temple has been bought by MLAs, mayors and politicians, triggering massive condemnation from the Opposition.

The Congress slammed the BJP for misusing the funds collected for the Ram Temple with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanding that the Supreme Court order a judicial inquiry.

“Bhagwan Ram is a symbol of honesty and the BJP-backed leaders and officers have profited from the trust meant for the temple construction,” she said.

She alleged that Champat Rai, the Trust secretary knows about the scam, and Anil Mishra, a member of the RSS and a member in the Trust and Rishikesh Upadhyay Mayor of Ayodhya are witnesses in the sale deeds.
