Maoist Leader Tasked With Spreading Red TerrorGuwahati: A senior leader from the Communist Party of India (Maoist) who was tasked with spreading red terror in Assam has been arrested by the Guwahati police. The leader is identified as one Kanchan Da alias Jyotish, who was part of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). His real name is Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, who originally hails from Howrah in West Bengal and was operating in the Cachar district in Assam.This was told to Times Now by Guwahati Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh. “He has been tasked to set up a complete a new system of Maoism in Assam to establish a red corridor in the state,” added Harmeet Singh.Further, incriminating evidence including a laptop and small devices, and Maoist literature was confiscated in possession of Kanchan Da.The Guwahati police team led by ADCP Crime Numal Mahatta has confiscated Rs 3.6 lakhs in possession of the accused. There are about 200 cases in the name of Kanchan Da and the reward in his name is above Rs 3 crore.As per CP Harmeet Singh, the plan was to make youths and Naxalite in Assam. However, the Guwahati police has been able to catch the accused in the nascent stage. “It is a great boost for National Security,” added CP Harmeet Singh.
