New Delhi: Congress working president Sonia Gandhi, on Tuesday, indirectly slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and alleged that ‘they are rewriting the history to give themselves a role they don’t deserve’. In her address during the 137th Foundation Day, Sonia Gandhi said that the best traditions of the Parliamentary democracy are being ‘deliberately damaged’.
“Divisive ideologies anchored in hate and prejudice and which had no role whatsoever to play in our freedom movement now causing havoc on the secular fabric of our society,” Sonia Gandhi said.
“They’re rewriting history to give themselves a role they don’t deserve. The finest traditions of our parliamentary democracy are being deliberately damaged. Congress will fight these destructive forces,” Gandhi further added.

Sonia Gandhi’s comments at the 137th Foundation Day address come on the backdrop of the recent Winter Session of Parliament during which 12 MPs of the Opposition were suspended for their alleged unparliamentary behaviour. Besides several protests against the suspension, the Congress party has also launched a renewed attack on the BJP targetting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over its ideology.
Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made repeated references to ‘Hindutva’ and ‘Hinduism’ and claimed that the two are different.
“Is Hinduism about beating a Sikh or a Muslim? Hindutva of course is. But is Hinduism about killing Akhlaq? In which book is this written? I have not seen it. I have read the Upanishads. I have not seen it. Where is it written that you should kill an innocent man? I am unable to find this. In Hindu scripture, in Islamic scripture, in Sikh scripture. I can see it in Hindutva,” he had said during a recent press conference.
