Hyderabad: As we step into a season where days are longer and temperatures are hotter, it’s also the time to make sure you prove to be a caring plant-parent. Follow the below plant care tips and give your plants a break from the heat.
TLC

Nothing comes above making sure your plants have adequate water and especially in summers as water evaporates from the soil much faster. It’s best to water them in the mornings, as it allows the water to reach the roots of the plants and ensures it runs down into the soil without too much water lost to evaporation. Keep an eye out for dehydrated plants and water them at regular intervals.
Give them some shade
Try to move your green family under shade as it helps prevent the direct sun rays. In case you do not have such a provision, try investing in a shade cloth.
Take a rain check on fertilizers
No doubt fertilizers play a major role in a plant’s growth and well-being. However, summers are different as most plants are in survival mode and are not efficient in making use of those extra nutrients. Instead, you can use homemade compost to support your plants.
Avoid repotting
Moving a plant from one pot to another requires trimming of roots and there are high chances of damaging leaves. This whole process leaves the plants in a state of shock and stress. Not a great thing to do when they are just trying to survive the season.
Keep them away from AC
In case you have indoor plants, do them little ones a favour and keep them away from ACs. You would sure enjoy the blast of cool air from your fancy appliance but moving air is dehydrating, stripping plants of much-needed moisture.
Learn to identify stress
Since plants cannot yell out their frustrations like we can, they exhibit this by showcasing changes. One can identify stress in plants by checking for wilting and discoloration of leaves and flowers. Check for weeds, insect pests and clean them from time to time.
Lastly, your safest bet is to treat them like the living creatures they are and the best tip is to try and talk to them. It may seem like an uphill task for some. Our best tip to deal with that? Do talk to your plants!
