New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Thursday that the investigation ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government into the Ayodhya land “scam” was an eyewash and called for the intervention of the Supreme Court.
She told a press conference here that the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance of the matter and intervene because the Ram temple in Ayodhya is being constructed in accordance with its order.
“Bhagwan Ram is a symbol of honesty and the BJP-backed leaders and officers have profited from the trust meant for the temple construction,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.
The Congress leader further claimed that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were committing “loot” and hurting the faith of the people.
She added, “The temple is being built following court orders and the enquiry should be done by the court only as district level officers can’t investigate against the leaders.”
According to her, the district officials’ investigation is an eyewash.
The Congress leader alleged that the sale deeds have the signatures of Ram Mandir Trust members. She further alleged that Champat Rai, the Trust secretary, is aware of the scam, and Anil Mishra, a member of the RSS and a member in the Trust and Rishikesh Upadhyay, the Mayor of Ayodhya, are witnesses in the sale deeds.
“Money of the Trust is being misused to benefit leaders and officials,” she said.
She also said, “Land value of Rs 2 crore was sold to the Trust for Rs 26.5 crore in 2017.”
Providing details about the deal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said: “2.33-hectare land was purchased for Rs 2 crore and this was waqf land.”
An FIR was also filed in 2018.
“On March 18, 2021, at 6.51 p.m. 10.37 sq yard was sold to the Trust for Rs 8 crore through its secretary Champat Rai. The remaining 12,000 sq m was sold at 7.10 pm for Rs 2 crore and the same land was sold to the Trust after 5 minutes for Rs 18.5 crore. In all the three sale deeds, Anil Mishra and Rishikesh Upadhyay, who is the Ayodhya Mayor, were witnesses.”
The UP government has ordered an investigation into reports that relatives of BJP leaders and government officials are allegedly “usurping” land near the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya.
According to a news report, MLAs, mayors, relatives of the commissioner, the SDM, and the DIG purchased land in Ayodhya after the Supreme Court announced its verdict in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, paving the way for the construction of the Ram temple.
