Chandigarh: Hours after the voting concluded for assembly elections in Punjab, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday said that he’s confident of winning both seats the Congress leader is contesting from with a good margin.

Hitting out at AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, the Punjab chief minister said he is a liar who flips on his statements and often apologises to people.

“I’m winning with a good margin from both the regions I’m contesting from… Arvind Kejriwal (AAP national convenor) is a lying man, he speaks big lies and either flips on his statements or sometimes apologises,” Punjab CM Channi told ANI.

Last week, Kejriwal had claimed that Punjab CM Channi is losing from both constituencies in the assembly polls. The AAP has conducted surveys thrice and in all of them, it was ahead in both the seats, the Delhi CM had said.

The Punjab chief minister further lashed out at the AAP saying that if it comes to power then there won’t be any change as the party has leaders who have been rejected from all sides.

“If instead of Congress, AAP comes to power (in Punjab), there will be no change, as they have political leaders who get rejected from all sides. They’re neither revolutionary nor is he (Arvind Kejriwal) a Bhagat Singh disciple,” CM Channi said.

Exuding confidence over the party’s victory in the state polls, CM Channi had earlier in the day said that Congress will form the government with a two-thirds majority in Punjab. Adding, “People are supporting Congress in large numbers. There is overwhelming support for the party among voters.”

The single-phase polling was held in all 117 Legislative Assembly in Punjab on Sunday. The state witnessed over 68 per cent of voter turnout. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
