Mumbai: Enforcement Directorate is carrying out searches at premises of people directly and indirectly associated with organised crime syndicate of Dawood Ibrahim. 

Searches started early morning by the federal probe agency. 10 locations are being searched in central Mumbai and other places. Sources said that the ED has taken congnisance of the FIR filed by the NIA last week, and some old cases registered against the associates of Dawood Ibrahim and D-company itself.

Sources said  D-Company is still active in the financial capital. “Associates of D-Company are still actively involved in extortion and hawala business  We are probing their involvement in the larger case of money laundering and how proceeds of crime are invested in India and abroad,” said sources. 

In 2019, the ED started probing how Dawood Ibrahim’s close associate Iqbal Mohammed Memon aka Iqbal Mirchi invested his wealth into real estate in south Mumbai and abroad. 

Mirchi handled the narcotics business on behalf of Dawood Ibrahim. He fled India and lived as a fugitive in London. He passed away in 2013. 

It was alleged that he had purchased properties worth Rs. 200 crores in south Mumbai. In December 2019, these properties were provisionally attached, and later adjudicating authority confirmed the attachment. ED filed a chargesheet against Mirchi’s family and others. 

In July, the ED took possession of two floors of CeeJay House in Worli. CeeJay House is a property that is valued at Rs 96 crores allegedly belongs to Iqbal Mirchi.
