Govt attaches top priority to safety of Indians abroad, says PM Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi | Credit: ANINew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with officials of a number of embassies and groups involved in the evacuation of Indian students stranded in the war-hit Ukraine virtually. He also held discussions with officials of Indian embassies based in Hungary and Romania.The Prime Minister also expressed his warm appreciation for Indian community leaders, volunteer groups, companies, private individuals, and government officials who worked tirelessly for the success of the operation. Praising the patriotic fervour, sense of community service, and team spirit displayed by all stakeholders involved in Operation Ganga, the PM recalled his personal interactions with leaders of Ukraine and its neighbouring countries and expressed gratitude for their support. Reiterating the high priority that government attaches to the safety of Indians abroad, PM recalled that India has always acted with alacrity to assist its citizens during any international crisis.India evacuated foreign nationals from 18 other countries stranded in war-ravaged Ukraine, the PM said during the interaction adding that over 90 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and its neighbouring countries were also dispatched.Around 23,000 Indians have returned to the country from Ukraine, PM Modi said adding that running this evacuation operation was challenging under such circumstances.
